Street Angels Birkenhead
Project Overview
A volunteer-led initiative supported by local churches, working to ensure safety in Birkenhead town centre during the evening and night-time. Teams of volunteers help prevent crime, reduce risks, and assist those in need, collaborating with the police, NHS, and other services to create a safer community.
What We Do
Birkenhead Street Angels is a new pilot project that is coming to the streets of Birkenhead this winter and beyond, to support vulnerable people in the evening and nighttime.
The project is being supported by the StepUp Fund, which is a public health and shared prosperity fund to assist local organisations in the delivery of their programmes which align with and support the Councils Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
The project involves co-designing, implementing and evaluating a ROC Angels supported project with night-time economy partners and the faith community in and around the Birkenhead area. This involves engaging community stakeholders and the public, designing the project, developing the set-up of the project and recruiting and training volunteers. Street Angels is a churches-led programme where volunteering is available to all diverse backgrounds.
The pilot began in December 2024 and will be evaluated by the end of March 2025, with a view to evolve and continue the project for the benefit of Birkenhead residents, visitors and its night-time economy.
